Module 1 – Using Preflop Ranges
Strategy: Preflop ranges (like the KISS 6max and Full Ring Cash Game Ranges with directions) give you a preflop mathematical advantage over your looser opponents.
3-day Action Step: Download the KISS Ranges above and use the Open-raising Ranges by position.
Module 2 – Asking Great Questions
Strategy: Having a habit of asking and answering a question before every play you make leads to better decisions. You'll put more thought into your decisions and this leads to better plays. Some of my favorite questions:
- What are they doing this with?
- Is my opponent betting worse hands?
3-day Action Step: Ask and answer Poker's Ultimate Question after every play your opponents make: “What are they doing this with?” The answer will guide your button click.
- Also, use the 2bet Calling Ranges from the KISS Cash Game Ranges.
Module 3 – Striving for Bread & Butter
Strategy: I love this quick wins strategy! Bread & Butter spots are the most profitable to be in: in position on the flop as the preflop raiser against 1 or 2 players. The more B&B you get, the more profitable your poker play is.
3-day Action Step: Before calling in the blinds, ask yourself, “Do I want to give this opponent Bread & Butter?” If not, fold. If you don't mind him having position and a stronger range, go ahead and call.
Module 4 – Improving Cbet Profitability
Strategy: Cbetting is the most common post-flop play you make, so you must know why you're cbetting: for value or as a bluff.
3-day Action Step: Know why you're cbetting. If it's a value cbet, they must be able to call with worse. If bluffing, they must be able to fold often enough to make your bluff profitable.
- Also, use the 3betting Ranges from the KISS Cash Game Ranges.
Module 5 – Reviewing Hand Histories
Strategy: Reviewing your hands is critical in finding your mistakes and working to NOT repeat them. Your database is a tool, but it's only a tool if you learn how to use it to review your mistakes. I know you might be uncomfortable with reviewing hands because you just don't know what to look for. But Julius Ceasar once said…
“Experience is the teacher of all things.”
You'll become comfortable and effective at hand reviewing as you do it over and over again.
3-day Action Step: Each day, review 10 hands where you lost the pot as the preflop caller. Review your biggest losing hands, analyze your play and find your mistakes.
- Also, use the 3bet Calling Ranges from the KISS Cash Game Ranges.
Module 6 – Utilizing Game Tape
Strategy: Record your play with a screen capture software as you speak aloud the logic behind your decisions. Pretend you have an audience that you have to justify your plays to.
3-day Action Step: Start each session with 15 minutes of game tape, then watch the game tape to find mistakes the next day.
Module 7 – Targeting Player Types
Strategy: Know each opponent's player types and target the loose-passive fish (calling stations) as often as possible.
3-day Action Step: Iso-raise their limps, 3bet their weak open-raises or raise when they're in the blinds. The goal: get in Bread & Butter spots against the Fish as often as possible.
Module 8 – Putting in Volume
Strategy: Lots of volume leads to more profits. Also, more volume = more practice with new strategies = better skills = more profit! Volume is critical for faster development.
3-day Action Step: Choose one strategy you want to refine and focus on using it over and over as you play as many hands you can. Hopefully, you can put in 400+ hands/day with this ONE focus.
Module 9 – Selecting Profitable Tables
Strategy: This is simple: play at table full of fish. The more fish, the higher the profit potential for you.
3-day Action Step: Leave hands with no fish and find fishy tables. Increase your chances of making money in each session you play.
Module 10 – A Positive EV Mindset
Strategy: EV is Expected Value. An EV Mindset means you're always looking to make the long-term profitable plays. Ask yourself, “Would I make this play over my next 1 million hands?” If the answer is yes, it's a +EV play. If not, it's -EV and you should NOT make that play.
3-day Action Step: Consider the EV nature of every play you make and if you deem it +EV, make it!
